The 2024 KBS Song Festival has officially cancelled its segments, particularly its upcoming red carpet and photo wall events.
On December 13, Ilgan Sports reported that KBS released an official statement, saying that the red carpet and artist photo wall event have been cancelled.
“As a result of the discussion made with the production team, we have decided to cancel the artist photo wall event of the ‘2024 KBS Song Festival,’ which was scheduled on December 20, at 4 PM, KST,” KBS shared.
“We would like to ask for your kind understanding, as this decision was made to focus on the live broadcast event and deliver a better show.”
The event initially planned to hold a simple photoshoot with the attendees rather than the traditional red carpet and pre-show interviews held every year. However, this alternative option was also cancelled by the organizers.
The cancellation was due to the ongoing protests currently taking place in South Korea, which are calling for the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol.
On December 3, the South Korean president announced martial law, causing extreme backlash across the country. Despite being lifted, the president’s actions led to extreme backlash from the public. Notably, KBS is located in Yeouido, where rallies are being held.
Aside from the music festival, KBS has also cancelled the red carpet segment of the upcoming 2024 KBS Entertainment Awards.
