On March 15, Kim Soo-hyun’s agency Gold Medalist released a statement regarding the photo released on March 14, clarifying that it was taken on December 14, 2019. The agency stated, “There is no valid reason for the reckless disclosure of private photos containing Kim Soo-hyun and the deceased’s personal lives. We urge for the cessation of such acts of spreading personal matters.”
The agency also acknowledged Kim Sae-ron’s mother’s position, saying, “We have seen the statements made by Kim Sae-ron’s mother on the recent broadcast. We cannot begin to fathom the immense pain she is experiencing after losing her daughter, and we recognize that no words can truly console her. We deeply regret and are saddened by the pain the deceased had to endure.”
However, Gold Medalist pointed out that some of the claims made by Kim Sae-ron’s mother differed from their understanding of the situation. They further expressed that there were details she may not have been aware of and stated, “We do not believe it is appropriate to publicly debate these matters, as it could go against the mother’s efforts to restore her daughter’s honor. Therefore, we would like to arrange a private meeting where our management team can provide a full explanation. We would greatly appreciate it if she could contact Gold Medalist at any time.”
Previously, on March 14, Gold Medalist released a statement regarding Kim Soo-hyun’s mental state, “Kim Soo-hyun has been experiencing severe psychological instability. Our company has taken necessary measures to ensure he can find absolute stability. Since Garo Sero Institute’s reports, Kim Soo-hyun has been suffering from extreme distress due to accusations suggesting he was responsible for the sudden passing of the late actress.“
The agency also highlighted instances of press intrusion, stating, “On the night of March 12, following Garo Sero Institute’s broadcast, a vehicle with individuals holding cameras was stationed outside our company’s main entrance and parking lot until dawn. On March 13, around lunchtime, more individuals with cameras were seen loitering around the building. This ongoing psychological pressure on Kim Soo-hyun is deeply concerning.”
Gold Medalist confirmed that Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Sae-ron had been in a relationship from the summer of 2019 to the fall of 2020, after Kim Sae-ron became an adult. They denied the allegations that he had dated her while she was underage. The agency also addressed claims that Kim Soo-hyun had ignored Kim Sae-ron’s financial struggles and explained the context behind the 700 million KRW debt notice sent to her.
On March 14, Kim Sae-ron’s mother released a statement, saying, “Our objective is to restore the honor of our child, who was destroyed overnight by countless false articles. We also wish to lay the groundwork for holding malicious YouTubers and cyber wreckers legally accountable for their crimes.”
She denied allegations that Kim Sae-ron had engaged in gambling, lying about her financial struggles, or leading a lavish lifestyle. Additionally, she expressed outrage at false reports suggesting that Kim Sae-ron’s family had mismanaged her earnings, stating, “Now that Sae-ron is gone, there are absurd claims that she was the sole breadwinner and that her family squandered the tens of billions she earned. On top of that, a flood of false and degrading articles have been written, filled with outrageous accusations unworthy of even being read.”
Kim Sae-ron’s mother revealed the emotional toll her daughter faced, likening it to nationwide cyberbullying triggered by journalist-turned-YouTuber Lee Jin-ho’s false reports, “For three years, Sae-ron endured relentless online abuse, unable to sleep, facing unspeakable personal attacks. What she went through was no different from being collectively ostracized by an entire nation.“
Kim Sae-ron’s family initially claimed that Kim Soo-hyun had been in a relationship with her since she was 15 years old, dating for six years. Since then, they have continuously released personal photos, including a photo of Kim Soo-hyun kissing Kim Sae-ron on the cheek, a letter Kim Soo-hyun sent to Kim Sae-ron during his military service and other private images and text messages.
