Did BLACKPINK’s Lisa Lip-synced at Victoria’s Secret Show?

On October 15 (local time), BLACKPINK’s Lisa made her appearance at the 2024 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, becoming the first K-pop idol to perform at the world’s hottest lingerie event. From the moment her participation was announced, BLACKPINK’s youngest member attracted a lot of attention.

Particularly, this is the first return of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show after a 5-year hiatus, and with the appearance of the Thai star, media coverage exploded.

Bringing two newly released songs to the hottest lingerie stage – “ROCKSTAR” and “Moonlit Floor”—Lisa went all out with a performance that showcased both her figure and bold choreography. With “ROCKSTAR”, the Thai idol remixed the song with a fast-paced rhythm, full of climactic moments designed for dance and catwalk.

“Moonlit Floor” was sweet and elegant, a perfect background for the angels to shine. Standing on stage with top models from around the world, Lisa did not pale in comparison. Wearing angel wings for the first time, BLACKPINK’s youngest member flaunted her ever-rising visuals, donning a hot lingerie set that stole the spotlight.

However, Lisa still faced criticism. The aftermath of two lip-syncing incidents, where she was accused of heavily relying on a backtrack during her performances at the 2024 VMAs and Global Citizen Festival, continued to follow her. Lisa was met with a crisis, with many sarcastically labeling her the “lip-sync queen.”

Therefore, her performance at Victoria’s Secret was a chance for her to prove her abilities, and people were watching her more closely than usual.

However, Lisa’s new “ROCKSTAR” performance is said to have an obvious backtrack. To accommodate her intense choreography and individual catwalk, it seems Lisa did use a backtrack for “ROCKSTAR”. In several parts, she completely dropped the mic and let the backtrack “sing” for her while she focused on hand movements and walking.

For the “Moonlit Floor” stage, however, the situation seems to be changed. As this performance primarily focused on her vocals and interaction with the Victoria’s Secret angels, it is pretty noticeable that Lisa sang live, showing an excellent vocal performance.

Overall, it seems that despite still having to use backtrack, Lisa only needs it for intense choreography moments such as the “Rockstar” dance break, and can command the stage just fine in a stage with less  dancing.
