After “Supernova”, aespa to Release Divisive New Song & Sparks Mixed Reactions

Their fifth mini-album, “Whiplash”, is set to be released on October 21. The album centers around the theme, “The empowered ‘me’ becomes the ‘game changer’ opening new worlds,” showcasing aespa’s confident and cool appeal.

As the new album follows the massive success of “Supernova,” which dominated the charts earlier this year, public anticipation is high.

For the first time since their debut, aespa is diving into the EDM-based techno genre with the title track “Whiplash.”

Choi Sung-woo, the chief director at SM ONE PRODUCTION, said, “We wanted to showcase aespa’s evolving musical style. While it’s not a mainstream genre like ‘Supernova’ and may evoke mixed reactions, it’s an attempt to layer aespa’s distinct color over an EDM base—something they haven’t done before.”

He added, “The members and staff were on the same page about wanting to repay the love their last album received with something fresh. We hope people will react with comments like, ‘aespa can pull this off too,’ or ‘Who else but aespa could do this?’”

aespa is currently in the midst of their second world tour, *SYNK: PARALLEL LINE*, which began in Seoul this June. They’ve toured across Asia and Australia, with stops in Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia, and Australia. Next year, they’ll expand the tour to North America and Europe, including the U.S., Mexico, Canada, the UK, France, the Netherlands, Germany, and Spain.
