Yoon Soo-il Embraces the Revival of Classic “Apartment” with the Popularity of BLACKPINK’s Rosé’s “APT.”

During a phone call with DJ Son Tae-jin on MBC’s Standard FM “Son Tae-jin’s Trot Radio” on oCOTBER 23, singer Yoon Soo-il discussed the buzz surrounding Rosé’s new track “APT.” featuring Bruno Mars.

Son Tae-jin mentioned that as “APT.” gains traction, Yoon Soo-il’s original “Apartment” is also being rediscovered, and he asked Yoon Soo-il about his feelings regarding this resurgence. Yoon Soo-il replied, “I’ve seen it a lot online and have heard about it from various people. I listened to both songs and was impressed by the ideas of Rosé and Bruno Mars.” He praised the creativity of his junior artists.

He added, “It’s great to have a similar theme of ‘apartment’ being used globally,” expressing pride in his junior singers.

Yoon Soo-il noted, “There is about a 40-year gap between the eras. The atmosphere from 40 years ago is very different from today, and musical trends have changed significantly.” He mentioned, “Rosé’s song is catchy, has a great hook, and is addictive, but I also have to brag that my song ‘Apartment’ held the number 1 spot in karaoke for ten years straight back then.”

He further explained, “I tried to keep the melody of ‘Apartment’ simple. Even though it’s a lonely song, it has been sung in unison and cheered on, which is not exactly what I intended, but I believe it’s a strength of my song.”

“Apartment” has been a beloved national song since the 1980s, frequently sung at baseball games and university cheer events, maintaining its popularity across generations.
