The Judge from Hell Episode 12 Recap

The episode begins with detectives investigating Sun-ho’s case and recording his father and brother’s statements, whose names were mentioned in the note he left behind. While the two feign innocence, they hurry with the funeral and don’t even wait for the DNA report of the burnt corpse. However, three days later on the day of the funeral, everyone is shocked when they find out that the corpse is not Sun-ho while the man in question walks into the police station.

A flashback from four days back shows when Bit-na found Sun-ho in a hotel. She involved Da-on in the plan and made a bet with Sun-ho that if he manages to get help from his family then she will let him go. Sun-ho took the bet and called Tae-gyu, unaware that his family decided to end his life. Later, he was picked up by Tae-gyu’s men who tried to kill him as ordered.

However, Bit-na’s team was prepared to win the bet and stopped them from killing him. Bit-na promised Sun-ho to get justice for his mother and he does as told by her. Soon after his “death”, he arrives at the police station with the weapon he managed to take from the house, which is proof of the murders committed by killer J. The weapon is sent to the laboratory, and news soon reaches Tae-gyu.

Stunned by this, Tae-gyu begins to get restless and rushes home to Jae-gyeol and insists he checks whether the axe is in the secret room. When Jae-gyeol doesn’t listen to him, Tae-gyu reveals that he has found the Kylum he so desperately wants, forcing Jae-gyeol aka Satan to do as told. Upon entering the room, Satan finds the weapon missing making him wonder how a human entered the room. He then recalls Bit-na’s expression on the day Sun-ho escaped and confirms that she is a demon.

He then tells Tae-gyu about it and promises to help him escape from the country with all his properties in exchange for the Kylum. Tae-gyu accepts the exchange and gets the Kylum, however, with a plan to end the demon’s life. Meanwhile, Bit-na has her eyes on him and is shocked to see the Kylum in his hand. She rushes to catch him while Da-on also gets the news that Tae-gyu is the killed J he had been looking for.

Back at the Jeong residence, Satan casts an illusion over Tae-gyu in which the latter follows his plan to kill Satan before leaving with the Kylum. When brought back from the illusion, Tae-gyu is shocked while Satan stabs him with a knife before leaving with the Kylum. When Bit-na finally arrives at the residence, she sees a blood trail left behind by Tae-gyu who somehow managed to escape.

Ignoring the trail, she rushes to the secret room and stops Satan right before he puts the Kylum into the put-together corpse of dismembered body parts. While she is surprised that Satan is Jae-gyeol and not Tae-gyu, she is ready to send him back to Hell. However, he stops her by calling out Da-on’s name and tells her about his escape from Hell. He tells her how Tae-gyu killed his father who refused to accept him as his son.

Seeing the perfect candidate to help him kill people to gather parts for the ritual, he promised Tae-gyu everything he desired. Soon after, Tae-gyu began his killing spree and decided on his victims as well. When Jae-gyeol’s wife stumbled upon Tae-gyu bringing the body part of another victim, the two decided to kill her too by starving her to death. Bit-na is angered by listening to this and is about to kill him when he uses his illusion to show Bit-na her desire.

A wedding scene where everyone she knew in the human stand in front of Bit-na, as she walks down the aisle in a wedding dress. Waiting for her in Da-on who is ready to spend a lifetime with her. However, the illusion comes to an end as Satan completes the spell he had been chanting, bringing out the zombified wife of Jae-gyeol to fight Bit-na.

Bit-na soon breaks out of the illusion and fights the zombie before turning to Satan once again and stabbing him with her knife. However, this doesn’t kill him but forces him out of Jae-gyeol’s body. Once again, Bit-na begins a round of fighting with Satan who tries to bind her in another illusion.

However, the two appear outside the room and begin fighting again and this time, Bit-na overpowers him and successfully sends both him and the Kylum back to Hell. Meanwhile, the detectives soon arrive at the residence only to find Tae-gyu missing. Da-on receives a message from Bit-na about Tae-gyu’s location and he rushes to catch the man.

Tae-gyu gets on a boat to escape the country but is shocked to see Da-on there. The two begin fighting and Da-on overpowers him. While he tries to hold back, Tae-gyu tells him about how he killed So-yeong. He tells him about how he chopped off her arm while she was still alive, giving her a painful death. Da-on loses control and is about to kill Tae-gyu when he remembers how Bit-na left the choice in his hands.

Bit-na promises to protect him in hell if he decides to kill Tae-gyu, but if he doesn’t then she will give him the justice he deserves as a judge. He also remembers So-young’s words when she asks him to not take matters of justice into his own hands and finally stops himself from killing Tae-gyu. He arrests the killer J he had been looking for years and ends this chapter.

As the boast soon reaches the dock, Gabriel (dressed as the boatman) praises him for doing the right thing while recalling their conversation with Bit-na who asked for help. Da-on walks away from the scene and sees Bit-na waiting for him. Without a moment’s delay, he rushes to hold her in a hug, crying out his pain once and for all.

Soon, the day of Tae-gyu’s trial arrives and the public is angered to find Bit-na is the judge for this case. While Bit-na’s boss gets phone calls from many powerful figures to save the man, Bit-na prepares to fulfil her promise to Da-on. However, right before she leaves for the trial, Bael arrives and tells Bit-na to let go of Tae-gyu, kill him herself and return to Hell or find herself a painful death.

Caught in between her duty as Justicia and as a judge who has promised to give justice to Da-on and all the families of the victims, she arrives at the court. However, she announces that no trial will be held, shocking everyone present there.

The Judge from Hell Episode 12 Review

Episode 12 was the one we had been waiting for all this time and we got everything we wanted. From the DaNa couple’s wedding scene to Satan’s revelation and Da-on finding killer J, this episode was a complete package that made us fall in love. The episode has all the elements we wanted from this show, but questions also arise about certain scenes.

While Satan’s departure to Hell and the scene of Bit-na’s desire have surely pleased viewers of this show, I have to say that a lot more could have been done on Satan as his mystery had been pulling us all along. It did feel somewhat lacking in a few ways, especially because of the way he was built until now. However, he did leave us with the satisfying scene of the DaNa couple’s wedding which overpowered the scene of his departure.

However, when looked into properly, we also see that he unleashed another illusion spell before his fight scene with Bit-na which makes me wonder, did everything following that scene even happen? While we have gotten our satisfying ending until now, did it really happen or is it Bit-na living her worst nightmare as said by Satan? Surely Bael wouldn’t appear like that in Bit-na’s office out of nowhere, proving this point.

Choosing to side with Da-on and facing death has to be Bit-na’s worst nightmare so was everything just an illusion until now. Adding on is the preview scene where detectives find something surprising on the 5th floor of a building. Altogether, this is for us to find out in the upcoming finale weekend which is surely going to blow our minds. This episode was a real rollercoaster and I am eagerly looking forward to what next week brings!
