According to the Inje University Ilsan Paik Hospital Hospice and Palliative Care Center, the event titled “Play This Song at My Funeral” was held from October 23 to 24 as part of Hospice and Palliative Care Week. It featured an exhibition of staff thoughts written on paper in front of the staff cafeteria.
A total of 368 songs were selected in the K-pop category, including:
- IU’s “Through the Night” (22 votes)
- DAY6’s “Time of Our Life” (21 votes)
- Jeon In-kwon’s “Don’t Worry” (13 votes)
- Rosé and Bruno Mars’ “APT.” (10 votes)
- Lee So-young’s “The Meeting” (9 votes)
- Kim Jin-ho’s “Family Portrait” (8 votes)
- Busker Busker’s “Bravo, My Life!” (7 votes)
- 015B’s “Now Goodbye” (6 votes)
Additionally, 12 hymns, 30 pop songs including “My Way,” and 11 classical pieces like requiems were listed as desired funeral songs.
Notably, Rosé’s “APT.” has gained attention for being among the ranked songs, as it was inspired by a Korean drinking game called “Apartment.” In this game, participants stack their hands and take turns removing hands from the bottom until someone pulls a hand on a specific number called out, resulting in a penalty drink.
Since its release, “APT.” has achieved remarkable success, reaching number one on Spotify’s U.S. charts and fourth on the UK’s Official Singles Chart.
Director Lee Eun-sook commented, “As awareness of pre-planned funerals and wills spreads, we hope this campaign encourages people to reflect on and prepare for the end of their lives. We also want it to be a moment to think about hospice care and the patients who utilize these services.”
