The Malaysian Ministry of Health recently raised a concern through their official social media account, asking, “Have you heard the song ‘Apartment’ by Rosé and Bruno Mars?”
They pointed out that in the song, the term “apartment” is used as a place of temptation, which normalizes behaviors that clash with Eastern cultural values.
They further expressed, “What’s even more concerning is that this song is frequently used in social media videos and is infiltrating everyday life. There is also the possibility that children may unconsciously sing along to these lyrics.”
Additionally, they stated, “As parents, educators, and members of society, we must be vigilant about uncritically accepting the influences of Western culture. While there may be various interpretations of this song and defense from fans, it’s important to analyze the lyrics and make our own judgments.”
