Having successfully made a comeback and re-debuted, FIFTY FIFTY is wrapping up their activities in Korea and will start a tour in 8 cities across the United States, including San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York, at the end of this month. They will also engage in various promotions. As FIFTY FIFTY’s “Cupid” gained huge popularity overseas in the past, the group plans to target the U.S. market again this time.
While overseas success was prioritized previously, this time FIFTY FIFTY aims to capture the hearts of both Korean and international K-pop fans simultaneously.
CEO Jeon candidly expressed, “This time it’s a balanced approach between domestic and international. I wanted FIFTY FIFTY to be loved both at home and abroad.” He also revealed that the previous strategy to prioritize the overseas market was a “survival tactic.”
“It took too long to succeed domestically and we didn’t have the funds. There are 100 million Spotify users in the U.S. It’s an incredibly large market. To get quicker responses, we needed to reach places like the U.S. and the U.K., where there are more music listeners. The English version of ‘Cupid’ came from a place of poverty and desperation. Naturally, having English lyrics was essential to appeal to listeners.”
During the upcoming U.S. tour, FIFTY FIFTY members will perform not only songs from their new release but also tracks from their previous discography. Fans can expect to hear songs like “Higher,” “Lovin’ Me,” and “Tell Me” performed with the current members’ voices. “Cupid,” which still has unresolved copyright issues, may also be used in the performances.
CEO Jeon added, “‘Higher,’ ‘Lovin’ Me,’ and ‘Tell Me’ will definitely be released for the fans. However, we will wait until the copyright for ‘Cupid’ is sorted out and we achieve complete victory.”
In addition, Jeon expressed his regrets over the exclusive contract disputes. After achieving miraculous success with a small agency, it’s understandable that he feels frustrated about not being able to sustain that success. However, there is also a sense of new hope and expectations since he miraculously met the current members.
Jeon noted, “Small and large agencies start from different points. What’s regrettable about reaching ‘Cupid’ was that it was a success that broke through one in a billion, or rather, one in ten billion for a small agency.”
He added, “But now, I hope FIFTY FIFTY will be remembered simply as a ‘successful K-pop girl group.’ That’s my duty and my responsibility.”
He also mentioned, “This time when we go to the U.S., we are newcomers, so our primary goal is to show our hard work in the spirit of being a rookie and to receive positive feedback like ‘They’re pretty good,’ or ‘Their music is worth listening to.‘”
With the new beginning of FIFTY FIFTY, ATTRAKT also has new plans, particularly for launching a boy group. Jeon said, “We will put all our effort into FIFTY FIFTY. Our goal is to continue to develop FIFTY FIFTY into something great, and we are also planning to create a wonderful boy group.”
