After 10 years since her debut, Red Velvet Irene will finally debut as a solo artist! With the initial release of details about her album, how are K-pop fans reacting to it?
On November 4, SM Entertainment, Irene’s label, confirmed in an official announcement that the “OG visual” and leader of Red Velvet will start her career as a soloist.
Irene’s mini-album, “Like A Flower,” will feature a total of 8 songs with a same-name title track. The album will be the first solo album of the member in a decade, drawing attention to what genres she will showcase in this release.
Since her entry into the K-pop scene in 2014, Irene stood out as the main visuals of Red Velvet and lead singer of the sub-unit, Irene & Seulgi. Through this, she will be able to prove her solid vocals and main-dancer-worthy skills which she wasn’t able to flaunt more while in a group due to limited line and part distribution.
On the same day, the company dropped a teaser image, a comic book-like illustration that seems to depict Irene’s traditional visuals. It further heightened fans’ curiosity about the idol’s solo debut which everyone has been eagerly waiting for.
Irene’s first solo album “Like A Flower” is available for pre-order starting today (November 4) at various online and offline music stores.
Meanwhile, netters in online communities are also showing high anticipation for this album, and so far, the majority of the comments were positive.
Here are some of the comments:

- “Irene’s husky vocals are awesome, but I was sad that she didn’t have many vocal parts. I guess I’ll be able to hear a lot of them this time.”
