Lee Dong-gun’s ex-wife Jo Yoon-hee opened up about her parents’ divorce, “How awful it must be to marry someone you don’t love”

On the November 5th episode of TV Chosun’s Now Alone, Jo Yoon-hee went on a date with her older sister, where she discussed family issues.

Jo Yoon-hee explained why she moved out before her sister, saying, “I never had a dream of living independently. I wanted to stay under our parents’ care, but our family wasn’t harmonious, and I felt that if we continued living together, things would worsen. So, when I had the opportunity to get my own place, I decided to live on my own.”

She continued, “I lived alone for about 10 months after moving out, and when I turned 31, our parents divorced. I ended up living with mom only 10 months after being on my own.”

Jo shared, “Mom never saved any of my work clippings or went to buy magazines I appeared in. She had her reasons. Mom and dad didn’t marry for love. Grandmother arranged the marriage, saying my dad seemed diligent enough, and they married because of that. Mom was depressed throughout her marriage and, looking back, probably struggled with depression from the moment she got married.”

She added, “I now understand how awful it must be to marry someone you don’t love, so I can understand mom’s feelings. At least I married for love and had a child whom I adore, and I want to give everything to my child. Mom wasn’t in that situation, so I feel like I need to be more understanding toward her in that aspect.”
