Shen Yue returns to the small screen with Smile Code

The upcoming Chinese healing comedy drama Smile Code has confirmed its premiere date for November 8.

Smile Code tells the story of Gu Yi, a woman living in Shanghai who works at a magazine during the day and does stand-up comedy at night. She has no grand ambitions; her goal is simply to make every member of the audience laugh. Thus, she pours her heart into her stand-up comedy job.

One day, a man named Liang Dai Wen comes to her show, sitting in the front row. No matter how much she tries, she just can’t make him laugh. Outside of the performance, he seems equally oblivious to humor, leaving her feeling extremely frustrated. Thus begins a battle between a woman determined to bring laughter to everyone and a man who “just can’t laugh.”

Returning to the small screen after two years, Shen Yue plays the lead role of Gu Yi. Lin Yi plays the male lead Liang Dai Wen.

Ye Xiao Wei and Zhang Tian Ai will play Xu Guan Rui and Guan Xing Xin, respectively. And Zou Ting Wei will be making a guest appearance.

The Chinese drama also puts in focus a group of young urbanites working in Shanghai, united by the need for a little joy amid the trials of city life. They each have their own struggles and frustrations, but they love listening to stand-up comedy that hits the sore spots of life, as it offers humor that is lighthearted yet brimming with optimism, encouragement, and open-mindedness.

Smile Code will premiere on November 8 and air 34 episodes. The C-drama will be available to stream on WeTV and TencentVideo.
