On November 5th, during TV Chosun’s entertainment program “All By Myself,” Yulhee appeared to explain why she disclosed Choi Min-hwan’s wrongdoings through her YouTube channel and detailed the subsequent legal proceedings.
After requesting an urgent interview with the production team, Yulhee expressed, “When we filmed previously, there were parts I wanted to hide and parts I wanted to share. I needed to find balance within myself. Now, I feel that I can comfortably share the stories I wanted to tell.”
Yulhee shared, “There was wrongdoing on his part a year before our divorce, but I thought we could overcome it for the children’s sake. However, as our differences deepened, I realized we couldn’t, so we agreed to separate.” She went on to explain that financial circumstances played a big role in her decision to give Minhwan custody, as her family was in a less stable economic position compared to his.
Subsequently, Yulhee received numerous malicious comments for being a mother who left her three young children. Regarding this, she shared, “I felt upset that people’s perception of me was different from my actual life as a mother. That’s why I decided to appear on “All By Myself.” I wanted to say that I never abandoned my responsibilities as a mother. I never abandoned my children.”
After exposing her ex-husband Choi Min-hwan’s club visits, Yulhee conveyed her feelings, saying, “Even until now, I didn’t want to talk about it. I really didn’t want to reveal it. More than anyone else.”
She added, “Giving up custody for a year and leaving was incredibly difficult for the past year. I didn’t have time to think rationally. When I first said that I would take the children, I couldn’t consider everything in detail because I lacked knowledge about divorce. I was just exhausted, suffering, and mentally unstable. I couldn’t help but feel incredibly scared and small.”
Furthermore, she explained, “When the decisive divorce talk came up, I accepted Choi Min-hwan’s suggestion for a mutual divorce. I didn’t have the strength to go through a lawsuit.”
She continued, “As soon as the mutual divorce discussion came up, Choi Min-hwan wanted to go to court within three days. But I think my judgment was short-sighted. If I had had the strength then, I wouldn’t have made that choice,” revealing that she has now decided to file a lawsuit to regain custody of her children.
Subsequently, Yulhee consulted a divorce attorney. She stated, “When we got divorced last December, my ex-husband got custody. The mediation terms allowed for free and frequent visitation rights. Also, both child support and property division were set at 0 won. We were going to share parental rights equally, but the court suggested it would be better to give it to one side, so it went to my ex-husband. Now, I want to regain custody.”
In response, the attorney explained, “Since the divorce was finalized last December, it hasn’t even been a year yet. You can claim damages within 3 years of divorce, and property division is possible within 2 years.”
The lawyer also added, “Divorce aftereffects typically last about 3 years. You had three children and lived together for 5 years, and all that time just disappeared. You needed to properly conclude this matter.”
The attorney continued, “For custody, the court looks at whether Yulhee has stable housing and if there are supporting caregivers. They consider the guardian’s economic situation and the ex-spouse’s child support capabilities before making a judgment,” advising her to “file for a custody modification.”
Yulhee expressed, “I’m trying to get things together even now. I want to avoid fighting and handle this amicably if possible, but I think trying is better than not trying at all. I didn’t even try a year ago. Even if it becomes a long battle, I want to get my children back.”
Previously, Choi Min-hwan and Yulhee got married in 2018. They had one son and two daughters together. However, they got divorced in December last year after five years of marriage.
