‘I Did Not Expect This’

UNIS Gehlee was once hated by some K-pop fans for being a “pick me.” But a recent video showing her “true personality” went viral — for the right reasons!

Gehlee Dangca is a Filipina K-pop idol who debuted as a UNIS member after winning in the SBS’s audition program, “Universe Ticket.”

She was loved for her “princess-like” image, but when she debuted, her feminine and confident aura didn’t sit well with some K-pop fans, leading her to be dubbed as someone with “main character syndrome.”

The 17-year-old idol was also called “pick me” girl for “trying” to steal the spotlight from her fellow members at photo ops at the airport and red carpet by doing “cringey” poses.

This negative image was stuck with her for a while, but people’s perception of her drastically changed following her recent viral video.

During her live broadcast, Gehlee was seen adorably defending her favorite animal, unicorns, when one fan said that it was not considered an animal.

She asserted:

“Yes, it is! It’s a horse with a horn, with magical powers. It’s just mythical, but it’s an animal. It’s a mythical animal, okay? Never in my life did I ever expect myself to be defending unicorns.”

Seeing this, internet users were surprised that she has a hilarious and “chronically online” personality, not to mention that she’s the type to defend unicorns.

But what people were truly shocked of was her deep natural voice — as those who only saw her “pick me” negative clips thought that she would have an “annoying, high-pitched” tone.

Currently, her video posted on Monday has amassed over 8.3 million views and the majority of the comments were positive, lauding her for her funny, sassy, and unfiltered charms, contrary to her initial image of someone who will pull down another woman just to stand out.
