The Japanese remake of the Netflix series “Nevertheless” starring Han So Hee and Song Kang, titled “The Shapes of Love,” has garnered explosive reactions from both Japanese and global viewers right after its release.
“The Shapes of Love” topped the ABEMA drama rankings, proving the high interest from local fans. Additionally, it debuted at number one on Netflix Japan’s Top 10 TV shows (from December 9–15), and also ranked 10th in the Global Top 10 TV (non-English category).
The show has received positive feedback from online reviews. On IMDb, the global largest rating site, viewers have praised it as “a work with charming actors and a poetic storyline,” and encouraged watching the original Korean version, which reflects current trends.
The Japanese remake, set in Japan, adds its own unique sensibility and charm, with actor Ryusei Yokohama taking the lead role and director Ryutaro Nakagawa’s delicate direction enhancing its quality. The eight-episode series is expected to offer new developments and Japanese-specific emotions in its remaining episodes, creating a distinct appeal compared to the original.
SLL’s production representative Park Jun Seo stated, “This year, we focused on discovering new projects and releasing remakes, establishing a strong foundation in the Japanese content market. Next year, we plan to explore more diverse collaborations, leveraging strengthened cooperation networks and production capabilities in both Japan and Korea.”
