In the final episode, which aired on January 4th, the MBC Friday-Saturday drama “When The Phone Rings,” the heartfelt love story between Baek Sa-eon (played by Yoo Yeon-seok) and Hong Hee-joo (played by Chae Soo-bin) came to a moving conclusion, culminating in the fulfillment of their 20-year-long romance.
Alongside the airing of the finale, the main cast—Yoo Yeon-seok, Chae Soo-bin, Heo Nam-jun, and Jang Gyu-ri—shared their final remarks with fans, accompanied by photos of the final script.
Yoo Yeon-seok: A Career-Defining Role
Yoo Yeon-seok, who perfectly portrayed the devoted and tender Baek Sa-eon, earned the title of a “dream male lead” for many viewers. Reflecting on his time with the drama, he said,
“I’m happy to have ended this year with ‘When The Phone Rings.’ Thanks to all the support, I’m looking forward to starting 2025 on a joyful note.”
He added,
“Hearing fans say that they were able to see so many sides of me through Baek Sa-eon feels like an unforgettable gift. This drama, which I poured so much effort into, received love and sympathy not only in Korea but also around the world. It has given me a huge source of inspiration and motivation for my acting career. Thank you for all the love you’ve shown.”
Chae Soo-bin: A Transformative Role
Chae Soo-bin, who captivated audiences as Hong Hee-joo, demonstrated her dedication by performing much of the early part of the series using sign language. She shared,
“I am truly grateful for the overwhelming interest and love viewers showed until the finale.”
She continued,
“This project was a growth experience and a challenge for me. Early on, I acted almost entirely without dialogue and practiced sign language diligently to make it feel natural. Playing Hee-joo was rewarding, and I was happy that so many people loved the story of Sa-eon and Hee-joo. I hope this drama remains in viewers’ hearts for a long time.”
Heo Nam-jun: Adding Suspense and Depth
Heo Nam-jun, who took on the role of the mysterious and tense Ji Sang-woo, reflected on his experience, saying,
“‘When The Phone Rings’ will remain a warm memory for me. As the drama went on, the team grew closer, which made the final day of filming feel especially bittersweet. I’m grateful that viewers enjoyed watching the show as much as we enjoyed making it. Stay healthy and warm this winter!”
Jang Gyu-ri: A Breakthrough Performance
Jang Gyu-ri, who gained attention for her polished portrayal of Na Yoo-ri, shared her gratitude, saying,
“It feels like just yesterday we started filming, and now it’s over. While it’s bittersweet, I feel a great sense of relief because I gave it my all.”
She added,
“This was my first time playing a professional role (an announcer), so it was a meaningful experience. Learning about a new profession helped me express myself more freely and with an open mind. I’ll continue to strive for better performances and bring you more great projects in the future.”
