According to the Korean Cultural Center in Belgium, five Korean productions have made it into six competition sections at BIFFF, which runs until April 20. Notably, director Shin Jae-min’s “Commission” and Min Kyu-dong’s “The Old Woman with the Knife” have both been nominated in the Thriller Competition category.

Additionally, Heo Beom-wook’s “Pig That Survived Foot-and-Mouth Disease” and Jung Jae-hee’s short film “Wanna Die Wanna Kill” have been selected for the Experimental Film and International Short Film categories, respectively. A total of 11 Korean films, including Ryoo Seung-wan’s “I, the Executioner”, have been invited to screen in non-competitive categories during the festival.
“My Son Died”, which aired on tvN and OCN Movies2 on October 8 last year, has been nominated for the International Competition category.

The work tells the story of a top Korean actor who is inevitably sent into a virtual reality and receives the mission to “play the father and protect the child”, and who eventually comes to love his son with the heart of a real father and faces the shocking truth.
According to Nielsen Korea, the drama only recorded a peak rating of 2.1% during its broadcast, failing to generate significant buzz. However, thanks to actors’ strong performances and a unique narrative, it garnered a dedicated niche following.
Some viewers who watched the drama commented, “A twist-filled, gripping short-form drama”, “The storyline felt truly fresh”, “I wish we had more of these one-episode dramas”, “Highly immersive with a lasting impact”, “Satisfying pacing and impactful conclusion”, “Leaves you with a lot to think about” and “Such a novel concept.”

“O’PENing” is a drama project created by new writers supported through CJ ENM’s rookie creator program “O’PEN”. The project showcases works known for their creative freedom and innovative approaches, often receiving praise and invitations to international film festivals.
BIFFF, which draws over 60,000 viewers annually, is regarded as one of the world’s top three genre film festivals, alongside Spain’s Sitges and Portugal’s Fantasporto.
Winners for each section of the 43rd BIFFF will be announced during the awards ceremony on April 18.
