In the novels written by Julia Quinn, the character is named Beckett, but showrunner Jess Brownell collaborates with Ha to select a Korean surname that starts with “B.” The choice fell on “Baek”.
The actress claimed in an interview that “a name is the first bit of identity that you share with the world, and changing a name can be so powerful.
This change allowed me to feel like the role was truly mine, rather than fitting into a preset mold.”
The series is set in the posh world of Regency England, and the international hit has won the hearts of viewers around the globe with its diverse casting and exceptional historical drama.
The choice of the lead character that would match the actual name of the actress continues the trend.
The following season is planned for release in 2026 and will follow Sophie as she abides in a grievous love story with Benedict Bridgerton, performed by Luke Thompson.
The teaser of Ha as Sophie in Grace in the period costume was released on the official Netflix and Bridgerton social media accounts. The plot will include the struggle of the lower-class Baek against the high society of London and the dangerous secret Sophie has to conceal.
