On March 22, BigHit Music told Xports News, “As soon as the company and the artist became aware of the criminal activity, we took immediate action to suspend transactions on the account and restore the original state to prevent any actual damage.

They continued, “In addition to legal measures, we have also strengthened security protocols related to the artist’s personal information and devices to prevent recurrence.”

According to Biz Hankook on the same day, in January 2024, while Jungkook was undergoing basic training after enlisting, a total of 33,500 shares of HYBE stock were transferred to an unauthorized account without his consent. The perpetrator then attempted to sell 500 shares (worth approximately ₩126 million) to a third party for profit.

Afterwards, Jungkook filed a lawsuit against the third party who had purchased the 500 shares. In February, the Seoul Western District Court ruled, “There was no valid transfer agreement for the stocks, and Jungkook was simply a victim of identity theft.” The court ordered all shares to be returned to Jungkook.

The perpetrator who hacked Jungkook’s account has not yet been caught. Given that the individual had access to Jungkook’s account, ID card, bank password and other sensitive financial information, there is now speculation that someone close to him may have been involved.

Meanwhile, Jungkook will be discharged on June 11.
