Byeon Woo Seok’s Private Security Team Accused of Intimidation Tactics Faces Prosecution

An overly zealous private security team tasked to protect actor Byeon Woo Seok at Incheon International Airport in a chaotic incident back on September 12 is now being prosecuted for breaching the relevant security laws.

According to the KoreaTimes, on October 22, the Incheon International Airport Police disclosed that they had booked (without detention) the security firm manager (Mr. A, 49) and a security guard below him under the same age group as the suspects. They have been accused of breaching the Security Business Act.

Police also reported that bystanders claimed the security members of Byeon Woo Seok’s Hong Kong leg of his Asian fan meeting tour had overstepped their authority and scared passengers.

Social media accounts described how security guards turned away gates, pointed bright beams of light at travelers, and even checked boarding passes.

After an investigation, authorities reportedly determined that the actions Mr. A and Mr. B took—which included flashing their flashlight at passengers as well as checking boarding passes—were acts of coercing others into paying money amid allegedly being in a position to search as assigned personnel under the Security Business Act.

This law bans security agents from violating the rights of others and disorganizing their normal activities while on duty. It also states they should never use intimidation or excessive force outside their duties.

The other security guards involved in the incident had also been booked but were not charged because police found no evidence of illegal action against them.

At the airport, Byeon Woo Seok was on his way to a fan event, which drew in a lot of buzz amongst fans.
