The news spreads like fire and during a meeting, all the court officials share their thoughts. The King agrees to marry the princess to Prince Rui. The princess begs on her knees to let her stay here but the King says that he can’t grant her request as he is in a position to do what has to be done. This shatters her heart and she leaves. The thought of the King agreeing shocks and surprises the Principal director, who shares his joy with the Queen Dowager.

He also says there are chances of a substitution, so he wants to arrange a prior meeting with the princess so the Qing envoy will know the real princess’ face. Meanwhile, Hee-soo plans to substitute the princess with one of her maids who can go as a spy to the Qing dynasty and learn of Prince Rui’s plans. She starts working out the plan as well, without telling about it to the King.

As planned, when the Qing envoy comes, he sees the face of the maid dressed as the princess and leaves. As the maid looks quite similar to the princess and is of the same age, he feels happy for his Prince getting a young girl. On the day of leaving, one of the senior maids notices that the young maid is missing while the princess is leaving. When she sees the young maid running she follows her, not knowing that it is the real princess escaping.

Somehow the princess escapes form her sight however she reports the incident to the Principal Director and he decides to stop the palanquin and see the face of the princess one last time. Myung-ha learns about it and warns Mong-woo/Hee-soo. A helpless Hee-soo panics and wonders what to do.

The principal director stops the palanquin and demands the princess remove her veil. As he expected, he catches the substitute red handed. Back at the King’s baduk house, he receives a call stating the principal director immediately wants to meet. Hee-soo stops him right at the moment to confess her sins and the episode closes.

Captivating the King Episode 10 Review

Agh, it’s so irritating to see the principal director at this point. In fact he is the maternal uncle of the King yet he doesn’t really want to understand his nephew’s feelings but rather selfishly thinks of only his actions. From the start he wanted Lee In to ascend the throne so he can make him work as per his wishes. However the King very well knows that his uncle would have been the man who poisoned his elder brother and keeps him at bay.

Honestly, if only the principal director shuts his mouth, the King can literally make Mong-woo leave the Joseon dynasty and remove the disguise, so as Hee-soo, she can wed him because she’s the daughter of Sang-hoon. Yes, Sang-hoon was sent to the Qing dynasty for being the initiator of the spy move but the King and almost everyone knows that it was carried out through the orders of the late King. Hence they might allow Lee In to wed her. However, fate has other plans that it wants to make things messy for the King so he’ll be stuck between family, country and his love.

Amidst all this chaos, four people are planning their big fat revenge story including Hee-soo. No idea how things are going to turn out as we’re almost close to the end of the series. Hopefully the next six episodes will turn out good as the ones we saw until now.
