The January 5 broadcast of SBS’s variety show “My Little Old Boy” featured Choi Jin-hyuk‘s fan meeting in Jakarta.
Known for his popularity in Indonesia thanks to the drama “Miss Night and Day”, Choi Jin-hyuk traveled to Jakarta to meet his fans. He presented carefully prepared songs and dances, which were met with enthusiastic cheers. Watching amidst fans’ excitement, his mother became emotional. She shared, “Because I know the process. He even had to have fluid drained from his knee before coming here.“
After performing, Choi Jin-hyuk noticed his mother in the crowd. He said, “Mom, isn’t it nice to attend the fan meeting? You always tell me it’s not easy for an unfamiliar actor to gain love overseas, and that I need to do well. I’ll never forget this and will always repay it, even until the day I die.”
Following the heartwarming fan meeting, the two decided to enjoy some sightseeing. Choi Jin-hyuk gifted his mother a bacan gemstone, which is only found in Indonesia’s Bacan Island.
While dining on seafood, his mother reflected, “Eating this reminds me of the past. Seeing you go through so much and finally hosting a fan meeting—it leaves a lasting impression. I doubted you’d do well, but now that I see you succeeding, I feel a little guilty. The fan meeting was so great and I’m thankful for it. Time passed so quickly.“
She then shared, “At first, I cried. It was hard to hold back tears because memories of the past came flooding back, especially from the time you wanted to become a singer.”
Choi Jin-hyuk recalled “You sold our house and got us a rental place“, to which his mother added, “That’s when everything started to go wrong. No matter what, that was the beginning. We got this expensive house, but…” She trailed off, tearing up as she remembered being scammed.
His mother continued, “Someone came and said they’d make you a singer. When I said we didn’t have money, they promised it wouldn’t cost a thing. But over time, their demands kept increasing, and the costs just piled up.” She concluded, “Seeing you overcome all that and now hosting a fan meeting—it makes me so proud. You’ve worked so hard.”
