On the 28th, the YouTube channel ‘Hyo’s Level UP’ uploaded a video titled “Story of failing SM Entertainment audition (Hyoyeon x Chungha)”
In the episode, Hyo-yeon mentioned, “I heard that Chungha decided to become a singer and went to numerous auditions without hesitation.” In response, Chungha confessed that she auditioned for all three major agencies: JYP, YG, and SM.
Chungha recalled, “I auditioned for JYP, YG, and SM. JYP was the one that accepted me, YG was at the final stage, and just before the final stage of YG, JYP accepted me. I had to go where I was accepted, so I went to the place that responded quickly. However, at that time, I was completely unaware of SM’s audition culture. I saw many posters of Girls’ Generation’s ‘Tell Me Your Wish’ and thought, ‘Oh, Girls’ Generation is having a concert?’ But it was an open audition schedule. I wondered, ‘Should I try it?’ It was out of curiosity. I was very raw back then, still wearing a backpack and going to boarding school.”
She continued, “I remember going to the audition before going back to the boarding school on the weekend. I went in with a group of ten people each time. Thankfully, they asked me to stay. I sang, and they asked me to freestyle dance. It was my first time. I said, ‘I don’t know how to dance,’” Chungha shared.
She added, “They played Britney Spears’ song. I don’t even remember how I danced. I also sang a pop song I knew. Then I went back to the boarding school. When entering the boarding school, I had to turn off my phone and hand it over to the dormitory supervisor. Since I was so raw, I knew it was okay that I didn’t get a call back.”
