On April 23, Disney+ informed the cast and crew that filming for Knock-Off would be halted indefinitely. This decision comes after the streaming platform had already postponed the show’s release due to the ongoing controversy surrounding Kim Soo-hyun.
Knock-Off tells the story of a man whose life is upended by the 1997 IMF crisis, transforming from an ordinary office worker to a global counterfeit market kingpin. The series garnered significant attention as Kim Soo-hyun‘s follow-up project after the success of Queen of Tears, with Disney+ reportedly investing over 60 billion KRW (approximately $45 million USD) into its production.

The controversy centers on allegations that Kim Soo-hyun had a relationship with Kim Sae-ron when she was a minor and pressured her to repay debts incurred from a DUI incident. Kim Soo-hyun has denied these claims, holding a tearful press conference to assert his innocence. However, the public backlash has been significant, leading to the suspension of his advertisements and edits to his appearances in other programs.
Despite the completion of scripts and the near-final stages of filming, Disney+ has decided to pause production entirely. While the platform has not ruled out the possibility of resuming the project, the future of Knock-Off remains uncertain.

Industry insiders speculate that if the series is ultimately canceled, Kim Soo-hyun could face penalties ranging from 20 to 100 billion KRW (approximately $15 to $75 million USD) due to breach of contract clauses related to personal conduct.
As the situation develops, Disney+ and the production team are closely monitoring the public response and legal proceedings to determine the next steps for Knock-Off.
