BTS member Suga, who is currently under investigation for drunk driving on an electric scooter, is once again under scrutiny for allegations of neglecting his military duties.
In November last year, a post related to Suga was uploaded to the “Public Servant” app, which is used by social service agents. According to Mr. A, who claims to have undergone basic military training with Suga, Suga was assigned the role of team leader at the time but did not properly participate in the training.
Mr. A stated, “Even the instructor seemed to think it was too much and gave a hint, but Suga just nodded his head without knowing what was going on after waking up from sleep, looked at his phone, and went back to sleep.” He added, “Suga’s group’s participation rate was the lowest. He gave off the vibe of a halfway delinquent trying to act tough at the beginning of the school term.”
This post has been brought back into the spotlight after it was revealed that Suga was caught by police riding an electric scooter while intoxicated. On the 6th of this month, Suga fell while riding an electric scooter near his residence in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, and was found by patrolling police officers who conducted a breathalyzer test. Suga’s blood alcohol concentration at the time was at the level for license revocation.
Following the attention on Suga’s alleged neglect of duty, Mr. A posted an additional comment: “I’m in the news because of Suga. I never said it was okay to spread my post, and now I’m only interested in protecting myself… I might get beaten to death by ARMYs (BTS fans)?”
In response, another social service agent asked, “Is what you said true? Did you really say Suga had a bad attitude?” Mr. A replied firmly, “Like with the other guys, what I’m pointing out is that despite knowing he would receive special leave as a team leader, his participation was poor, and even though the instructor gave him a hint, he embarrassed the instructor by going right back to sleep. In my opinion, that says a lot about his character.”
Suga is already facing public criticism for his drunk driving incident. The additional explanations regarding his alleged neglect of military duties have further worsened the public’s perception of him.
