EXO CBX Members Embark on a New Professional Journey; Here’s Where They Stand With SM Entertainment

EXO CBX members – Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin – are onto great things! Joining a new independent agency has complicated their relationship status with their former label, SM Entertainment, the company that formed EXO. Will this change impact the group’s status as well? Not to fret, for things seemed to have worked out favourably, for both the artists and the fans. Here’s what the situation will look like from here on.

K-pop contracts and the business side of this artistic window have long been a frustrating issue, especially with fans wanting their favourites to be safeguarded contractually, in the best way possible. Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin’s professional union makes for EXO’s first sub-unit, and for quite some time now, they’ve been in a tussle with SM Entertainment as far as the discussion around their artistic contracts were concerned. On January 8, brand new solo profiles for each member of the trio were released by a uniquely formed label INB100 (also listed as INB100 by some sources), founded by Baekhyun in 2023.

Will EXO CBX Members Still Be in EXO After this New Chen Baekhyun Xiumin Contract Development?

In addition to the profiles and new Twitter pages created for the trio, SM Entertainment also released a separate statement via the official EXO Twitter page, revealing that Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin’s solo activities will no longer be facilitated in association with SM. However, the three singers will still be continuing their exclusive contracts with their former label, as per which all 8 members of EXO will be resuming their future group activities, such as music releases, stage performances and more events, under SM’s banner itself.

Moreover, despite D.O. aka Doh Kyung-soo’s exclusive contract having terminated with the label already, he, too, has agreed to participate in EXO activities. Therefore, the octet is staying together under SM Entertainment, but some of them have additionally branched out to settle into their individual professional expressions separately. In 2023, Kyungsoo had signed a contract with a new agency, Company Soosoo (set up by his longtime manager), and now, Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin have joined INB100 for their solo stints. In addition to their individual projects, Baekhyun’s new company will also be handling the trio’s unit activities.
