Family by Choice episode 15 shows our SanWon couple’s tough fight as they face rejection from Ju-won’s father for their relationship. Meanwhile, Hae-jun leaves the entire HaDal fandom in a mess after he rejects Dal’s proposal in a way that has us all screaming at him. This episode is a rollercoaster as things only get more chaotic when San-ha mother meets Ju-won.
Family by Choice (조립식 가족) tells the story of a family formed by bonds of love rather than those of blood. Two fathers come together to care for their three children who share the bond of love as they grow up together. While life isn’t always smooth for the trio, and feelings of love make their way within them, the family is always ready to face everything together. Starring Hwang In-youp, Jung Chae-yeon, Bae Hyeon-seong, Seo Ji-hye, Choi Won-young, Choi Moo-sung, the drama is available to stream on Viki.
Episode 15 begins with the shocking revelation of our SanWon couple’s relationship in front of their fathers. While Dae-uk is happy for the children, Jeong-jae is unable to accept their relationship and shows his refusal for the same. While his reaction was somewhat unexpected for Ju-won, she shares a heartfelt moment with her father as she thanks him for never letting her feel lonely.
Later, San-ha also meets Jeong-jae and tries to see what he can do to gain Jeong-jae’s approval, but fails to convince him. The next day, Hae-jun goes to meet his mother and shares a heartwarming moment with her while telling her that he will live with her. The topic soon drifts to him playing basketball as she tells him her wish to see him play again. Elsewhere, Ju-won accidentally ends up hurting San-ha when he tries to surprise her.
Jeong-jae rushes to the hospital worried for him but pretends to hold no such feelings and rushes back. Meanwhile, Hae-jun finally answers Dal’s proposal and tells her that he sees her as he sees Ju-won and wishes to be like a brother to her. He tells her that he will forget about her sudden proposal and leaves.
Elsewhere, Dae-uk tries to see what he can do for our SanWon couple and takes his colleague’s advice on how to greet the in-laws. As he goes to the restaurant with a fruit basket, he stumbles upon the scene of Jeong-jae holding Seo-hyun (Hae-jun’s mom) who is about to trip. He quickly leaves there while Jeong-jae takes Seo-hyun inside the restaurant, flustered.
Meanwhile, Hae-jun tells his friend his wish to go back to basketball and accepts the job he offered him. During this time, his friend also tells him about everything Dal faced over the years which makes him look back to the rejection. On the other hand, Dal erupts in front of her mother who continues to scold her about the blind dates while her daughter cries out for her broken heart.
Later that evening, San-ha calls his mother and tells her he has something to tell her; unaware that his mother is at Ju-won’s cafe. There, she tells Ju-won to break up with her son in exchange for letting her son have a peaceful life. She calls their relationship a delusion that they hold which hits Ju-won who is unable to say anything. He then meets his mother and finally opens up about his feelings over the years; telling her how much he wanted her care and wished he never acted like an adult in the first place.
Meanwhile, Ju-won asks her father about what it feels like to be in love and is relieved that she feels what he feels for her mother. She is relieved that her feelings are true and not the delusion San-ha’s mother called their feelings. Finally, she goes to pick up San-ha from the station where she confesses her love for him and shares an emotional moment with him.
This episode was a true rollercoaster for viewers as it brought various elements together. With the two beloved couples going through a tough time in this episode, we are relieved when at least one of them is going on the right path. Though, the anger we hold for Hae-jun is deep as we cannot stop crying for Dal.
