On the 8th, YG Entertainment announced through their official blog that BABYMONSTER, YG’s rookie girl group, will release their first full-length album, DRIP, on November 1st. This was revealed in the [YG Announcement BABYMONSTER 1ST FULL ALBUM ROLLOUT] post.
In a video released that day, YG’s executive producer Yang Hyun-suk personally explained the nine tracks included in BABYMONSTER’s album DRIP, drawing much attention.
BABYMONSTER officially debuted as a 7-member group on April 1st. Despite being rookies for less than a year, their global achievements have been incredibly impressive.
In fact, BABYMONSTER’s first mini-album BABYMONS7ER sold a total of 401,287 copies, setting a new record for the highest first-week sales of a debut album by a K-pop girl group. The music video for their title track “SHEESH” recently reached 300 million views on YouTube, and their choreography video surpassed 150 million views. Their subscriber count, considered a key indicator of fandom formation, is nearing 7 million.
As interest in BABYMONSTER’s first full album continues to grow, Yang Hyun-suk expressed confidence in the album, saying, “I’m really satisfied with this album.” The unique promotion strategy he unveiled has heightened anticipation for their comeback. YG’s bold move to pre-release one-minute snippets of two tracks from the album (excluding the title track) every week, starting this week, has also added to the excitement.
DRIP consists of nine tracks, with the first track being “CLIK CLAK.” Yang described it as a “highly original hip-hop song that has never been seen before at YG.” All seven members will take on the role of rappers in this bold musical experiment for BABYMONSTER.
The second track is the album’s title song, DRIP. Yang teased, “It’s a song that makes anyone, regardless of age, want to dance. Please look forward to BABYMONSTER’s energetic performance.” He also made a surprise announcement that G-Dragon contributed to the composition, further raising expectations for the album.
Other tracks include the beautiful vocal-driven Love, Maybe over guitar melodies, the ‘90s hip-hop-inspired Really Like You, the R&B-flavored BILLIONAIRE with a Y2K vibe, the light-hearted Love In My Heart, Woke Up In Tokyo (RUKA & ASA) showcasing the Japanese members’ hip-hop style, pre-release track FOREVER, and the bonus track BATTER UP (Remix), which was loved at their fan meeting.
This full-length album is being produced as a major project under YG’s extensive support. Typically, only one or two music videos are made for full albums, but Yang revealed, “For BABYMONSTER’s album, we plan to shoot at least three music videos,” demonstrating his deep affection and confidence in their first album.
Regarding BABYMONSTER’s new choreography, Yang commented, “For 28 years, I’ve been involved in all the choreography for YG artists like BIGBANG, 2NE1, and BLACKPINK. Although it’s not difficult, in BABYMONSTER’s case, we are planning a world tour. Coordinating choreography for all the tracks in the album simultaneously can be challenging, but I am determined to produce great results,” reflecting his ambition to expand BABYMONSTER’s global presence.
Furthermore, Yang added, “Fans can look forward to hearing BABYMONSTER’s new songs with excitement every week. I hope everyone enjoys and connects with the music until the full album is released on November 1st.” He also announced that the music video for CLIK CLAK will be pre-released 2-3 days before the album launch. He concluded by saying, “We will not release any teasers for the title track until the release date. We want to unveil it in a powerful way. Please show lots of support from global fans.”
