Unlike the common scenario where mothers typically retain custody after a divorce, Yulhee is known to have given up custody of her children, leading to public criticism. Amidst this, she shared her story calmly on the show.
Yulhee, who was active as a member of the girl group LABOUM, discovered she was pregnant in 2017 while dating Choi Min-hwan. At the time, she was just 20 years old. Fearing that revealing the truth would affect her career, she chose to keep it a secret.
The first people to find out were her younger sister and the stylist manager. Coincidentally, Yulhee had more activities after her pregnancy, and thanks to the stylist manager’s consideration, she was able to wear comfortable outfits while working.
However, as she entered her third~fourth month, her belly began to show, and she started experiencing back pain and shortness of breath. With growing concern, she would subconsciously place her hand on her belly while greeting others, always preparing herself for what she thought might be her last performance.
Eventually, it became impossible to keep the news hidden. When she told her mother, her mother worriedly asked “How do you plan to resolve this?” and cried a lot for her daughter’s future. Ultimately, Yulhee left the group in November of the same year.
In January 2018, Choi Min-hwan announced his marriage to Yulhee. Their wedding took place in October, after Yulhee gave birth to their first son in May and completed her postpartum recovery. Despite the challenges, they officially became a married couple.
After their wedding, Yulhee and Choi Min-hwan shared their married life on television. In 2020, they welcomed twin daughters, becoming parents to three children. While Yulhee expressed a desire for a fourth child, this wish ultimately went unfulfilled.
This was largely due to the fact that the couple divorced in December last year after 5 years of marriage. Following the divorce, Choi Min-hwan shared his daily life with the children through KBS’s “The Return of Superman”, leading to further criticism of Yulhee.
However, the divorce is a matter between the couple and their families. Yulhee had to give up custody of her children due to financial reasons, shedding tears in the process. Moving forward, we support Yulhee in overcoming people’s prejudices and confidently pursuing her own path.
