Han So Hee on Her Controversies: “Personal matters shouldn’t be brought into my professional affairs

On September 25, a press conference for Gyeongseong Creature Season 2 was held in Seoul. People are particularly focused on Han So Hee as this is her first public appearance with a new project since her recent controversies.

Gyeongseong Creature Season 2 follows Ho Jae (Park Seo Joon), who bears a striking resemblance to Tae Sang, and Chae Ok (Han So Hee), who survived the spring of Gyeongseong, as they unravel the ties of fate, relationships and malevolence connected to Gyeongseong.

Lee Moo Saeng takes on the role of Captain Kuroko, who leads the elite agents known as Kurokos and, in Jeonseung Pharmaceutical’s laboratory, devises secret plans. Bae Hyeon Seong plays Seung Jo, who stands out among the Kurokos for his remarkable skills and performance.

When asked about her thoughts ahead of the release of Season 2, Han So Hee responded, “It’s been a long time since we finished filming, so it feels like ‘Season 2 is finally coming out.’ In Season 1, I was [mostly] with Park Seo Joon, but this time, with Lee Moo Saeng and Bae Hyeon Seong joining us, it feels like we’re showcasing a new project together.”

Talking about her character, Han So Hee explained, “Chae Ok lives in a different era, and I had to portray [the sense of] that passage of time.” She added, “Rather than focusing on how the historical changes significantly affected Chae Ok, I focused on portraying the passage of time. Since she’s a character who has lived all that this time alone, I focused on how she endured it.”

She added, “Chae Ok is someone who lives altruistically. She lives more for others than for herself. In the past, she had a desire to achieve something, but as time passed, that ambition became a bit blurred. As time passed, she lost her reason and sense of purpose for living. It seems she has changed into a character who lives more for others than for herself.”

Additionally, Han So Hee’s intense action scenes are a key highlight of Gyeongseong Creature Season 2. “I tried wire work for the first time for the action scenes. I got over my fear of heights. Since I had to perform action scenes [befitting a character with] superhuman strength, I had to be a little faster and my movements more precise. I practiced a lot and worked on coordinating the moves extensively in advance.”

Last March, Han So Hee was caught up in a scandal involving Ryu Jun Yeol, who had been in a relationship with Lee Hye Ri for seven years before parting ways. With Han So Hee’s involvement, many suspected she was the reason for Lee Hye Ri and Ryu Jun Yeol’s separation.

Han So Hee’s name was also flashed in front-page headlines when her mother, Ms. Shin, who is in her 50s, was recently arrested and indicted by the prosecution for allegedly running illegal gambling dens at 12 locations in the Wonju area for over 20 months, from 2021 until last month.

Han So Hee has previously stated on multiple occasions that she was raised by her grandmother from the age of five after her parents divorced, and that she is no longer in contact with her mother.

At the time, Han So Hee’s agency commented, “This is an entirely personal matter caused by her mother,” adding, “Actress Han So Hee was devastated and at a loss for words upon hearing the news.”

Through Gyeongseong Creature Season 2 Han So Hee makes her first public appearance after the controversies. Concerns have been raised, especially in South Korea, about whether her scandals might negatively affect the project.

Regarding this, Han So Hee stated, “I always hope people will look upon me favorably. I believe that my personal matters should not be brought into my professional affairs. I hope that people will enjoy and have fun watching Season 2 as well.”

Gyeonseong Creature Season 2 will be released on September 27, only on Netflix.
