On the morning of December 30th, a memorial altar was set up at a gymnasium within Muan Sports Complex in Muan, South Jeolla on the morning of December 30th for bereaved families of the 179 victims in the recent Jeju Air plane crash and people to visit and pay tribute to the victims.

Acting President Choi Sang-mok and National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik also visited the memorial altar and sent condolence wreaths to share the pain with the bereaved families.

Many people burst into tears as soon as they saw the memorial plaques with the names of the victims. 179 memorial plaques were placed in full two lines so that everyone could leave flowers and mourn the victims.

Aside from the memorial altar in Muan, the Korean government also set up memorial altars at the accident scene and in 17 cities in Korea. They also declared a 7-day national mourning period, starting from December 29th until January 4th. Korean people have also started to wear memorial ribbons to mourn the victims.

At this moment, there are still many victims whose bodies have not been identified and returned to their families. According to reports, most of the victims lived in Gwangju and Jeonnam. Most of them have just returned from their year-end trip to Thailand with their families and friends. In the list of victims, many groups of 4 or 6 people have been confirmed to be families.
