Singer Lee Sang-soon appeared on MBC FM4U’s “2 O’Clock Date with Ahn Young-mi” on Nov 21st.
Recently, Lee Sang-soon and his wife, singer Lee Hyori, ended their life in Jeju and moved to Seoul. The couple made headlines for purchasing a ₩6 billion house in Pyeongchang-dong in cash.
Lee Sang-soon is also serving as the DJ of MBC’s radio program “Perfect Day with Lee Sang-soon” in Seoul.
Speaking about his wife’s reaction to his DJ role, Lee Sang-soon said, “She was very happy about it. She has always said I would do great as a DJ. When Bae Cheol-soo took a vacation from MBC’s ‘Bae Cheol-soo’s Music Camp’, Hyori and I worked as special DJs. She loved it and thought it suited me well.”
Lee Sang-soon often carries the title of “Lee Hyori’s husband”. While he doesn’t dislike it, he expressed a desire to be seen for who he is. Given the choice between “Lee Hyori’s husband Lee Sang-soon” and “Musician Lee Sang-soon”, he chose the latter.
He said, “It’s not that I hate being called Lee Hyori’s husband. It’s natural—she’s far more famous and a superstar compared to me. I’ve accepted it, and it doesn’t upset me. But I was a musician before meeting her and still am after meeting her. My identity is as a musician. Being Lee Hyori’s husband isn’t a career; it’s just a part of who I am.”
Lee Sang-soon denied rumors that he comes from a wealthy family. When news of his marriage to Lee Hyori broke, speculation emerged that he was the son of a famous rib franchise owner in Busan. Dismissing this, Lee Sang-soon clarified, “That rumor started because my maternal great-uncle owned a well-known rib restaurant in Busan. While I called him ‘grandfather’, he wasn’t my biological grandfather—he was my mom’s uncle who helped raise her after her father passed away early. So, their wealth has nothing to do with me.”
He added humorously, “I did enjoy a lot of ribs as a kid whenever we visited. Three brothers eating dozens of portions! Even now, I can go and eat ribs anytime I want.”
Lee Sang-soon revealed that Lee Hyori monitors his radio program. “While she takes care of the dogs and prepares dinner, she texts me when there’s a fun story or a good song playing. Sometimes I even read her messages on air. She seems to enjoy it a lot lately.” He jokingly imagined her life at home, “I picture her cooking and having a peaceful time by herself. But honestly, I don’t know for sure. She just looks really happy.”
Lee Sang-soon shared his aspirations as a radio host, “I wanted to be the kind of DJ we used to listen to—a simple one who plays music and shares listeners’ stories. The production team has been making that happen for me. We only have one external guest per week.”
