Earlier on August 9th (local time), Allkpop reported that Seungri would attend an event called “Burning Sun Surabaya” in Indonesia on the 31st organized by TVS Management, an overseas event managing agency. As soon as the news spread, netizens poured criticism over Seungri joining an event with the same name as his scandal.
However, on the 11th, Seungri released his stance via Daily Sports that the report about the Burning Sun club event was not true at all. He emphasized, “I don’t know where this news comes from and I have no plans to join as a guest”.
As controversy intensified, Gentlemens Club, which planned the event, eventually released an apology video on Instagram and canceled the event. They said, “We apologize to Korena music fans, especially K-pop singers and fandoms, for the poster on the official SNS account of TSV Management a few days ago”, adding “There have been a lot of misunderstandings in media reports and news about the post”.
However, the club explained, “We want to emphasize that the poster we distributed didn’t have any description about inviting Seungri”, adding “The title ‘Burning Sun Surabaya’ was to convey the message that you should stay safe at clubs and partiers. The message ‘The new chapter is born’ aimed to remind people that what the Burning Sun issue can happen anytime and anywhere”. They added, “Due to the controversy that arose from the misleading poster, we decided to cancel the event”.
Even though the club insisted that they never invited Seungri, the caption “Best Honor” on the poster with Seungri’s name made everyone misunderstand that Seungri would appear at the club. There was no specific apology for this part.
In response, Seungri plans to take legal action against the club. Via Dialy Sports, he said, “The club did not apologize for using my photo and name. It’s only an apology for causing issues in the local night club culture environment”, adding “The claim that they never invited Seungri is just an excuse to not be sued”. Seungri’s side stressed, “We are preparing to file a complaint, and will take legal action next week”.
Meanwhile, Seungri denied rumors about him running a club overseas. However, he faced a backlash for being spotted at a club in Bali, Indonesia a day later. Reports claimed that Seungri and his friends tried to approach Korean female tourists. Regarding this allegation, Seungri also refuted it and explained that those women were his acquaintances. He acknowledged his continuous clubbing witnesses but also expressed unfairness, saying “I’m just enjoying my vacation with friends like any other ordinary people”.
Meanwhile, Seungri caused a stir as he was identified as a perpetrator in the Burning Sun Scandal in 2020. He was sentenced to prison on 9 charges and already completed serving one and a half years in prison.
