Singer IU has garnered attention for giving expensive gifts to junior idol groups, expressing her gratitude for their guest appearances at her concert. The gifts ranged from luxury brand bags to contemporary art lighting fixtures.
In March, NewJeans appeared as special guests at IU’s concert. Later, on YouTube channel “Halmyungsoo,” they expressed their gratitude for IU’s gifts. Minji revealed that IU personally selected lighting fixtures in colors that would suit each member. She added, “We were already grateful just to be invited as concert guest performers.”
The lighting fixtures IU gifted to the five NewJeans members are known to cost 3,120 euros (approximately $3,500) each. They are works by contemporary artist Jean-Michel Othoniel. MC Park Myung-soo responded with admiration, saying, “It’s truly touching that she gave each member a light for their room.”
ITZY Yuna also mentioned the gifts ITZY got from IU during her appearance on MBC’s entertainment program “Radio Star.” She shared that IU had prepared shopping bags and handwritten letters for them.
On the show, Yuna expressed how deeply touched she was by IU’s thoughtful consideration, saying, “She chose bags that suited each member.” Additionally, Ryujin said, “We received various luxury brand bags,” and added, “We were really grateful that senior IU considered each member’s taste when selecting the gifts.”
The fact that ITZY members received bags from world-renowned brands such as Gucci, Balenciaga, Louis Vuitton, Saint Laurent, and Loewe garnered even more attention. Netizens expressed surprise that IU, a senior figure in the music industry, not only considered the junior artists’ preferences but also prepared handwritten letters.
Meanwhile, IU’s wealth has also been drawing attention. Recently, her luxury apartment “Eterno Cheongdam” in Gangnam’s Cheongdam-dong, Seoul, was listed for sale at 32 billion Won (approximately $28.5 million USD). If sold at this price, it would set a record for the highest apartment sale price in South Korea.
