In a recent interview with Billboard, IU discussed her upcoming 2025 drama and music projects.
IU shared, “‘When Life Gives You Tangerines’ is a drama where the entire crew worked incredibly hard and gave it their all. I’m thrilled to be promoting this project.”
Set on Jeju Island in the 1950s, the film explores the adventurous and daring lives of two individuals born and raised on the island. IU takes on the role of Ae Sun, a bold, rebellious and intelligent girl who refuses to succumb to adversity, always fighting against the fate imposed upon her. Park Bo Gum plays Gwan Sik, a quiet yet steadfast young man who harbors a pure and profound love for Ae Sun.
IU emphasized that this isn’t her only plan for 2025. She revealed, “I will also be starring in another work with a completely different vibe—seductive and humorous. Although I’ve been focusing on acting throughout the year, I’ve also started working on new music projects. Fans won’t have to wait long to enjoy something fresh.“
With outstanding achievements in both music and acting, IU has earned the title of “Nation’s Little Sister” and was recently named Korea’s representative for Billboard’s Global No.1 artist series. Reflecting on this accolade, she expressed her gratitude, “It feels so special. I feel like I’m dreaming—it’s hard to believe this is real.“
This year, IU achieved tremendous success with her song “Love Wins All”, which topped Melon’s weekly chart for four consecutive weeks and remained No.1 on the monthly chart in February. She also completed a world tour that attracted 500,000 attendees.
