J.Y. Park, Love for His Juniors? “TWICE and ITZY Must Succeed, JYP’s Revenue Depends on Them”

On the November 5th broadcast of KBS Cool FM’s “Park Myung-soo’s Radio Show”, J.Y. Park discussed JYP artists and company management with DJ Park Myung-soo.

During the show, Park Myung-soo mentioned JYP groups, “TWICE is on Hal Myung-soo today, and ITZY has also appeared on the show before.

In response, J.Y. Park laughed and said, “They need to succeed more than I do. My success or failure doesn’t affect the company’s operating profit. What’s important for me is not losing my sense of the field since I make many key decisions, and there’s always the risk of losing that touch.

He continued, “The real revenue of the company depends on them. TWICE and ITZY are more important than I am.”

When Park Myung-soo asked “Hasn’t TWICE achieved great success in the U.S.?“, J.Y. Park responded proudly, “Yes, they’re doing well in the U.S..” He added “And ITZY’s new song is also crucial. My new song ‘Easy Lover’ is relatively less important. We have a large staff, so other artists in the company need to succeed even more“, drawing laughter.

The conversation then shifted to Wonder Girls’ past attempt to break into the U.S. market. Park Myung-soo recalled, “When no one else was trying to enter the U.S. market, you took Wonder Girls there. I was amazed, thinking, ‘How did he even come up with that challenge?’

J.Y. Park responded, “I knew there was less than a 10% chance of success, but I really wanted to try. It was a meaningful challenge, and I’m still grateful and sorry to Wonder Girls for joining me.” With this heartfelt comment, J.Y. Park showed his special affection for TWICE, ITZY and Wonder Girls, emphasizing that the success of junior artists is at the core of JYP.

Park Myung-soo then asked, “What is JYP’s top song in terms of copyright revenue?” J.Y. Park answered, “Right now, it’s TWICE. While I have many past hits, ‘What is Love?’ is on a completely different level. It became a global hit, outpacing ‘Nobody’ or ‘Don’t Leave Me’ by more than a hundred times.”
