According to SPOTV News on April 7, Naoto Takenaka has been cast in SBS’s new drama “Taxi Driver 3” (written by Oh Sang-ho, directed by Kang Bo-seung).
Based on a webtoon of the same name, “Taxi Driver” is a revenge action drama about a mysterious taxi company, Rainbow Taxi Company, and its driver Kim Do-gi who delivers justice on behalf of wronged victims. With its unique concept of a taxi driver hunting villains, the series has become a symbol of the “satisfying drama” genre.
Following the massive success of Seasons 1 and 2, “Taxi Driver 3” has been officially greenlit. Lead actor Lee Je-hoon, along with Kim Eui-sung, Pyo Ye-jin, Jang Hyuk-jin and Bae Yoo-ram, will all return to form the full “Rainbow Taxi Company” team. The new season is slated to air in the second half of this year.
Naoto Takenaka, one of Japan’s most beloved actors, will join Season 3, raising anticipation for an even larger-scale production.
He is well known in Korea for his role as Franz von Stresemann in “Nodame Cantabile”. His other major works include “Shall We Dance?”, “Waterboys”, “Drops of God” and “Colours of Wind”.
In 2010, he made his Korean drama debut in “The Fugitive: Plan B” starring Rain (Jung Ji-hoon), drawing significant attention at the time. His return to Korean TV after 15 years, especially in a proven hit like “Taxi Driver”, is drawing much interest for the synergy it may bring.
Naoto Takenaka’s scenes in “Taxi Driver 3” will be filmed on location in Japan, expanding the show’s worldbuilding and raising excitement for the series’ international reach.
“Taxi Driver 3” is set to premiere in the second half of 2025.
