Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born Episode 11 Review: Jooran Takes the Hardest Decision, Breaking Maeran Girls’ Hearts

In this poignant episode, Yeong-seo and So-bok journey to Mokpo to convince Jeongnyeon to return to the Maeran troupe, facing resistance from her mother, Geon-soon. Despite Jeongnyeon’s initial rejection, Yeong-seo’s unwavering loyalty and a dramatic moment at the shore rekindle Jeongnyeon’s resolve. Meanwhile, Geon-soon, moved by Jeongnyeon’s determination, reflects on her own sacrifices and ultimately supports her daughter’s dream.

Back at Maeran, the troupe delivers a powerful performance of Ondal the Fool, but Ok-kyeong shocks everyone by leaving the troupe, forcing So-bok to lead with uncertainty. Inspired by her mother’s emotional rendition of an old pansori song, Jeongnyeon finds hope and strength to pursue her aspirations, vowing to overcome her struggles.

Jeongnyeon returns to Seoul to rejoin the Maeran troupe. At the Maeran house, the girls are worried about the troupe’s future now that Ok-kyeong has left and Hye-rang has been expelled. Do-aeng enters to prepare them for rehearsal, but they bombard her with questions about what lies ahead. Amid their concerns, Jeongnyeon arrives and is warmly welcomed by everyone, with Cho-rok being the happiest to see her. Cho-rok also steps in to shield Jeongnyeon from the trainees’ uncomfortable questions. However, when Jeongnyeon looks toward Jooran, the latter avoids making eye contact.

Jeongnyeon meets with the director to confirm her mother’s approval of her return to the troupe. She then sets out to find Ok-kyeong, only to learn from Yeong-seo that she has left. Jeongnyeon visits Ok-kyeong and Hye-rang’s shared house but encounters Hye-rang instead. Enduring Hye-rang’s sharp words, Jeongnyeon confronts her, advising her to let go of Ok-kyeong, effectively humbling her. Later that evening, Jeongnyeon discusses the troupe’s future with Yeong-seo, expressing doubts about her voice. Yeong-seo encourages her, bolstering her confidence.

Jooran watches Jeongnyeon and Yeong-seo’s conversation from a distance but leaves without saying anything. Jeongnyeon follows her, calling out her name, but Jooran walks away silently. Meanwhile, So-bok meets with the troupe’s scriptwriter to discuss revisions but is shocked to learn he has received an offer from the film industry and will be leaving. Left with a lightly revised script, So-bok decides to take a risk by assigning the trainees to work on it and audition for the roles. However, the girls are skeptical of working on an untested script without experienced actors.

Do-aeng later seeks clarification from So-bok about the new plan. So-bok explains she’s relying on an investor, a former Maeran member. That evening, So-bok meets Hong-mae, hopeful she will support the troupe. To her dismay, Hong-mae reveals plans to buy the Maeran building and convert it into a hostess bar. Furious and disgusted, So-bok storms out, only to discover that their accountant, Ko, leaked information about Maeran’s debts to Hong-mae. Heartbroken, So-bok returns to the Maeran house and encounters two trainees leaving with their suitcases. She wishes them farewell but collapses on her way to her room. Fortunately, Jeongnyeon finds her and rushes her to the hospital.

Do-aeng visits So-bok at the hospital, where Jeongnyeon updates her on what happened. Back at the Maeran house, tensions rise as a fight breaks out between Cho-rok and the seniors who plan to leave. Jeongnyeon tries to stop them, but they quit and walk out. Determined to prove herself, Jeongnyeon asks the remaining girls to judge her vocals for the male lead audition. Yeong-seo proposes a challenge: the troupe will perform a free show, and Jeongnyeon’s performance will be deemed successful if her audience matches or exceeds the crowd Yeong-seo draws for her solo act.

The girls promote the free show, and as expected, Yeong-seo attracts a large audience with her stellar performance. In contrast, Jeongnyeon initially gathers only a small crowd, who mock her broken voice. Despite the criticism, Jeongnyeon pours her heart into her performance, and her raw intensity gradually draws a larger audience, including the Maeran girls. At the hospital, So-bok grows paranoid and breaks down but is comforted by Do-aeng. Together, they attend Jeongnyeon’s performance, where So-bok is moved to tears by Jeongnyeon’s skillful acting and singing despite her damaged voice.

The crowd is captivated, and Jeongnyeon earns the opportunity to audition for the lead role, having drawn more attendees than Yeong-seo. That night, Jooran reveals why she avoided Jeongnyeon—she feared failing because her emotions overwhelm her whenever they act together. Jeongnyeon reassures her, calling her a cherished friend and a vital part of the troupe. They reconcile and pledge to support one another. The next day, Jooran tries on her wedding dress while her mother urges her to quit acting to please her future husband.
