Jinny’s Kitchen 2″ PD expresses thoughts on Go Min-si overwork controversy “I was shocked, I feel sorry for the other cast members

In a recent interview with Star News following the end of tvN’s variety show “Jinny’s Kitchen 2”, PD Park discussed various aspects of the program.

“Jinny’s Kitchen 2” depicts the operation of a Korean restaurant in Iceland, with a sincere boss and hardworking staff managing the second branch of the restaurant.

This season saw actress Go Min-si joining as an intern. BTS’s V, who was the intern in the previous season, was unable to participate due to his military service, and Go Min-si was selected as his replacement.

PD Park explained why Go Min-si was chosen as an intern, “There were many reasons, but the top priority was finding someone who would fit well with the existing members. We wanted someone who could blend in with the original cast of ‘Jinny’s Kitchen’, and Go Min-si seemed perfect for that. She also had a lot of part-time work experience, so I thought she would do a good job and her personality seemed strong and reliable. Additionally, while working on the movie ‘Smugglers’, she got along well with her senior and junior co-stars despite the age gap. Go Min-si is 25 years younger than Lee Seo-jin, and I felt she would harmonize well with someone of that age difference. She did better than I expected, and viewers’ response wasn’t bad, so I was relieved.”

PD Park Hyun-yong also spoke about the different charms of BTS’s V and Go Min-si, who served as interns in seasons 1 and 2, respectively. He remarked, “One of the most entertaining parts of season 1 was the dynamic between Lee Seo-jin and V, which was reminiscent of cartoon characters like Ko Gil-dong and Dooly. The dynamic of an old boss and a new employee was fun.”

He continued, “This time, Go Min-si played a different type of new employee. If V was the free-spirited one, Go Min-si had a more sharp and diligent vibe. However, I feel a bit hesitant to compare them, as I didn’t work with V for this season. I think of him almost like a fictional character in this context.”

Go Min-si filled V’s absence admirably, handling various tasks in the restaurant and often working without proper breaks, which caught viewers’ attention. This led to some viewers raising concerns about her being overworked.

Regarding this controversy, PD Park confessed, “I was really shocked.” He added, “I didn’t expect people to think that. I felt sorry for the other cast members. From the production team’s perspective, everyone worked hard. I think viewers focused more on Go Min-si because she was a new face and did such a great job. We should have been more attentive to the overall dynamics, and for that, I apologize to the other cast members. Everyone worked extremely hard, even compared to their previous projects.
