On the morning of January 7th, the press conference for Coupang Play’s series “Newtopia” was held at the Grand Ballroom of Conrad Seoul Hotel in Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. The event was attended by director Yoon Sung-hyun and actors Park Jeong-min and Jisoo.

“Newtopia” follows soldier Jae-yoon (Park Jeong-min) and his girlfriend Young-ju (Jisoo) as they navigate a zombie-overrun Seoul, racing through the chaos to reunite with each other.

Jisoo plays Kang Young-ju, a “rookie” in society. After struggling with a boyfriend who doesn’t understand her feelings, she breaks up with him, only to encounter a zombie outbreak while on her way to meet him.

During the event, Jisoo said, “When BLACKPINK members achieve something, they celebrate with me as if it were my own success. It really makes me feel the depth of our family-like bond.”

She added with a smile, “Filming this drama made me want to work even harder. I hope ‘Newtopia’ will receive a lot of love too. If this project succeeds, I’ll be able to share my story with the members. I hope it does well enough for them to feel proud of me.”

Besides, Jisoo shared her reasons for choosing “Newtopia”.

When asked why she chose the project, Jisoo replied, “I’ve watched many zombie-themed works. When I read the script, I found it included not only a zombie outbreak but also a variety of colorful and unique events. It felt like a fresh take on zombie dramas, so I decided to join without hesitation, especially with director Yoon Sung-hyun and actor Park Jeong-min involved.”

Director Yoon praised Jisoo, “Jisoo is so humorous. It’s not easy to laugh out loud while watching YouTube, but I found her so entertaining. Working with her was amazing, and I couldn’t stop admiring her talent.

Jisoo found the director intriguing. She said, “Everyone who knows him would agree that he’s unique and quirky. He kept telling me I was quirky too, which was amusing. We ended up resonating a lot during the shoot, and I relied on him a lot. He was a big help.”

Meanwhile, Coupang Play’s “Newtopia” is set to premiere on February 7th at 8 PM.
