Jo Bo-ah Opens Up About Returning with Dear Hongrang Instead of Knock-Off: “Nervous, Excited, and a Bit Worried”

Jo Bo-ah made a heartfelt appearance on May 13 at the press conference for Netflix’s upcoming series Dear Hongrang, addressing her long-awaited return to the screen. The event, held at the Ramada Hotel in Sindorim, Seoul, was attended by director Kim Hong-sun and co-stars Lee Jae-wook, Jung Ga-ram, Uhm Ji-won, and Park Byung-eun.

While Jo Bo-ah was initially slated to make her post-marriage comeback in the Disney+ series Knock-Off, the project faced an indefinite delay due to controversies involving Kim Soo-hyun and the late Kim Sae-ron. As a result, Dear Hongrang now stands as her first official project following the hiatus.

At the event, Jo Bo-ah didn’t directly comment on the controversy surrounding Knock-Off but focused on her excitement for Dear Hongrang finally reaching audiences. “We filmed for a long time, and after an extended post-production process, we’re finally able to present it,” she shared.

Her voice revealed both anticipation and vulnerability as she added, “Because the project took so long, I’m feeling even more nervous, excited, and a bit worried. I hope viewers will show lots of love and anticipation for Dear Hongrang.”

The series, set to premiere on May 16 at 4 p.m. KST, is a historical mystery melodrama centered on Hong-rang (played by Lee Jae-wook), the long-lost son of Joseon’s wealthiest merchant family who returns after 12 years with no memory. Jo Bo-ah plays his half-sister Jae-yi, the only one who questions his identity. As suspicion brews, an ambiguous emotional tension begins to grow between the two.

With Knock-Off delayed following disturbing allegations involving its lead actor, Jo Bo-ah’s graceful pivot to Dear Hongrang has only increased anticipation for the Netflix drama. As one of the most talked-about spring releases, Dear Hongrang may mark not only a successful comeback for Jo Bo-ah, but also a major highlight in 2024’s K-drama lineup.
