K-drama fans can’t stop talking about “Resident Playbook,” the newest viral hit that’s capturing hearts with its heartfelt storytelling and standout cast. At the center of this attention is the growing romance between Oh Yi-young (Go Youn-jung) and her stoic yet charming senior (and brother-in-law), Ku Do-won — played by none other than Jung Jun-won.
Though Jung Jun-won may not have been a household name before, his portrayal of Ku Do-won is turning heads — and it turns out, he’s been on the radar of the creators for years.
Series producer Shin Won-ho revealed, “He’s an actor I’ve been watching for a while. I wanted to cast him in previous projects, but the timing never worked out. This time, I was determined to bring him on as Ku Do Won.”
He continued, “For this role, I needed someone mature, like the professors that audiences loved in Hospital Playlist. Someone the juniors can lean on. Jung Jun Won has that reliability, but he’s also not rigid. He gives off an ease and warmth, while still feeling grounded and interesting.”
Director Lee Min-soo echoed the praise, saying, “From the very beginning, I was looking for someone who embodied the essence of a dependable senior. Born on January 13, 1988, Jung Jun-won made his screen debut in the 2015 film “The Avian Kind.” Despite nearly a decade in the industry, he’s remained mostly in supporting roles — until now. “Resident Playbook” is giving him the spotlight he deserves, and fans agree: his portrayal is nothing short of a casting masterstroke.
