Recently, former VCHA member KG filed a lawsuit to terminate her contract with JYP Entertainment, at the same time accusing the agency of abusing and mistreating their artists, even driving a VCHA member to attempt suicide.
In her lawsuit, KG mentioned JYP’s inhuman restrictions on members’ diet, forcing them to maintain alarment level of slimness and only allowing them tiny portions of salads, even straight-up telling the members not to eat and monitoring their meals and kitchen.
Upon hearing about this, fans of JYP artists have started to discuss the glaring eating order issue within the company, suspecting that the cause is none other than JYP’s strict dieting regimes.
In particular, the company once told TWICE’s Momo that she has to lose 7kg (15 pounds) in order to appear on the group’s showcase, leading to the female idol to eat nothing but ice for a week.
Meanwhile, Stray Kids’ Felix once mentioned that before a group concert, he has to diet until he can see his bones. While the male idol later clarified that the bone part is a joke, the fact that he had to diet remains.
Additionally, ITZY’s Chaeyeon also expressed her wish for a pill that makes her full, whereas ITZY’s Yuna admitted to symptoms of an eating disorder by fixating on her diet.
Overall, fans were deeply concerned that the diet culture within JYP may be too toxic and harmful to the idol, and KG’s lawsuit stands as strong evidence.
Some also pointed out that this issue is not only about JYP Entertainment, but also the entire K-pop industry as a whole.
On the other hand, JYP has denied KG’s allegations and called her claims “false and exaggerated”. To this, KG has released a new statement, insisting that she is fully prepared to support her claims with strong evidence, including photographic and physical proof.
