KBS Deletes Article Alleging Min Hee-jin Tried To Stop NewJeans From Announcing Position

On Sep 13th at around 5 PM, KBS published an article titled “Min Hee-jin’s side ‘Stopped NewJeans from announcing their position’… HYBE ‘Regretful toward Min’”.

The article claimed that Min Hee-jin had advised the NewJeans members not to go ahead with a live broadcast just before they were scheduled to go live.

It also mentioned that the members initially intended to hold a press conference following Min Hee-jin’s dismissal but were persuaded by her not to do so.

However, the article was removed from KBS’s official website the following day. The reasons for media outlets deleting articles typically include requests from involved parties or errors in reporting. Despite being a public broadcaster, KBS has yet to provide any explanation for the sudden deletion.

Some speculate that the article’s removal might be linked to Min Hee-jin’s prior knowledge of NewJeans’ broadcast, which she allegedly did not report to HYBE. This could be seen as a breach of her duties as an inside director. According to Article 412, Section 2 of the Commercial Act, a director must immediately report to the auditor any situation that poses significant potential harm to the company. Additionally, Article 399 (Liability of Directors) states that a director is jointly liable for damages if they violate laws, the company’s bylaws or neglect their duties intentionally or negligently.

Currently, former CEO Min Hee-jin has filed an injunction demanding her reinstatement, asserting the validity of the shareholder agreement. The NewJeans members also conducted the live broadcast with the intent of supporting her return.

The controversy surrounding Min Hee-jin’s alleged involvement in the broadcast and the subsequent deletion of the article has only intensified the situation.
