Actress Kim Ji Eun takes on her first historical drama and her first role as a woman disguised as a man in Check in Hanyang.
Check in Hanyang revolves around Yongcheonru, the largest guesthouse in Joseon, which operates under the motto “The guest is king,” and it follows the young interns — Lee Eun Ho (Bae In Hyuk), Hong Deok Su (Kim Ji Eun), Chun Jun Hwa (Jung Gun Joo), and Go Soo Ra (Park Jae Chan) — who begin to work there for their own personal reasons.
Hong Deok Su (Kim Ji Eun) is a woman living disguised as a man for some reason. She is set to fiercely struggle for survival at Yongcheonru, hiding her true self.
On November 19, the production team of Check in Hanyang released the first still cuts of Kim Ji Eun as Hong Deok Su. Hong Deok Su is seen dressed in a blue robe and wearing a gat (traditional Korean hat).
In the next still, she is seen wearing the uniform of a Yongcheonru intern. With her hand raised, as if about to say something, she gazes earnestly at someone or something.
The final still cut features Hong Deok Su as a woman wearing a bright pink traditional Korean veil. This transformation raises curiosity about why she ended up disguising herself as a man.Regarding this, the production team of Check in Hanyang stated, “Despite it being her first historical drama and her first time playing a woman disguised as a man, Kim Ji Eun perfectly immersed herself into the character of Hong Deok Su through her outstanding ability to analyze the work and thorough preparation. Kim Ji Eun’s passionate performance, which delicately captures the inner self of both the courageous and bold intern and a woman with a hidden backstory, will undoubtedly lead to the birth of a new defining character in her career.”
