On January 2, fashion magazine Vogue Japan posted a photo shoot and interview with Kim Ji-won on its official account. The actress was introduced as “The star who became a top celebrity after 14 years of her career, receiving love across Asia through ‘Queen of Tears.’”
The tvN drama “Queen of Tears,” which ended in April of last year, starred Kim Ji-won alongside Kim Soo-hyun and made a significant impact in the world of content. The final episode achieved an average viewership rating of 24.9%, making it the highest-rated show in tvN’s history. Overseas, it was streamed on Netflix, where it recorded 682.6 million viewing hours in the first half of the year, ranking as one of the most popular K-dramas of the period.
In a photo shoot taken in a traditional Japanese house, Kim Ji-won gives off a dark, mysterious atmosphere, with long, straight hair reaching her shoulders and wearing a black sleeveless dress. Her intense gaze particularly recalls her character, Hong Hae-in, from the drama.
In another photo, Kim Ji-won’s acting expression is captivating as she wears a beige trench coat and gazes pensively, almost sorrowfully, amid hydrangeas. A unique photograph also captures her sitting across from a glass, with the shadow of trees reflected in the glass, drawing attention.
In the interview, she shared behind-the-scenes stories from the drama. She mentioned, “The most memorable part was ‘how to create Hong Hae-in’s appearance.’ I started exercising three to four months before the shoot and focused on maintaining my body shape during the more than a year of filming.”
When asked about the turning point in her acting career, Kim Ji-won highlighted her role as Yoo Rachel in the 2013 SBS drama “The Heirs.” She said, “It was an honor to work with writer Kim Eun-sook. I’m grateful for the love I received from ‘Descendants of the Sun’ (KBS2) and beyond.”
Kim Ji-won, whose MBTI is INFP, spends most of her time at home when not filming. She confessed, “There were nights when I couldn’t sleep due to anxiety about not being able to act well.” She added, “I don’t think I will ever be 100% satisfied with my acting. Still, if I approach it with a healthy mindset and do my best, I believe I can improve compared to the person I was yesterday.”
