On the November 10 episode of SBS’s “My Ugly Duckling”, fathers appeared in the studio for the first time. Along with them, special MC Song Ga-in joined the show to watch a video of Kim Jong-kook, Lee Dong-gun, Heo Kyung-hwan, and Kim Hee-chul enjoying a trip to Taiwan with their mothers.
While on the bus en route to a tourist site, Heo Kyung-hwan took on the role of MC and kept the conversation going. During a talk about family resemblances, Kim Jong-kook’s mother began, “It’s not exactly a proud story, but I’ll say it first,” grabbing everyone’s attention.
She then surprised Kim Jong-kook by revealing, “He had to take the college entrance exam four times.”
She also added, “If you look at that, he might resemble his father a bit too, but honestly, I also hated studying back in middle and high school. He’s a lot like me.”
Kim Jong-kook then chimed in, laughing, “My mom recently admitted to me that she didn’t study much either,” showing his candid side and bringing laughter.
Seo Jang-hoon, watching this, asked Kim Jong-kook’s father, “Isn’t Jong-kook’s older brother a doctor? But Jong-kook had to take the college entrance exam four times. His mother thinks Jong-kook’s lack of interest in studying resembles her. Who does his brother take after?”
Kim Jong-kook’s father replied evasively, “I don’t know. I never had to pay tuition. Studying is the easiest thing,” boasting that he had only ever received scholarships, impressing everyone.
Then, Kim Hee-chul’s mother boasted about her son, “He did well in elementary school. In the lower grades, when no one got perfect scores, he was the only one to get all A’s.”
Kim Hee-chul’s father also confirmed that his son ranked first in his entire school during his elementary years, specifically in first grade. However, Kim Hee-chul’s mother admitted with a laugh, “But he started to give up on studying around third grade.”
