Actress Kim Sae-ron was seen on a movie set, marking her return to acting after her DUI accident.
According to reports by the Korea Times on October 21, Kim Sae-ron was spotted filming at Tapgol Park in Jongno-gu, Seoul. She appeared cheerful in a white dress, and her co-star is said to be a rookie actor.
The movie in which Kim Sae-ron is starring is a low-budget musical film directed by Shin Jae-ho, known for his work on the original film “Ditto” starring Yoo Ji-tae and Kim Ha-neul, and the 2004 film “100 Days with Mr. Arrogant.”
A representative of the production stated, “It is true that Kim Sae-ron is part of the cast, but we cannot reveal further details at this time,” expressing a cautious stance.
Kim Sae-ron rose to prominence as a child prodigy in films such as “The Man from Nowhere” and “A Brand New Life.” She continued to have an active career across dramas and movies, but her DUI incident in 2022 caused significant controversy.
At the time, Kim Sae-ron was caught driving under the influence in Gangnam, Seoul. She collided with a guardrail, a tree, and a transformer, causing a temporary power outage in nearby shops and streetlights, inconveniencing citizens. Kim Sae-ron refused a breathalyzer test but requested a blood test, which revealed a blood alcohol level of 0.2% (a level warranting license revocation), leading to her license being revoked. She was fined 20 million won in court.
In May of this year, Kim Sae-ron attempted to return to acting through the play Dongchimi, but negative public opinion led to her withdrawal. She was also reportedly seen working at a café during her hiatus.
On the other hand, drunk-driving has been a topic of interest within the Korean showbiz as many celebrities ruined their careers over this crime. Most recently, BTS’s Suga, who faced a fine for DUI, were targeted by various funeral flower wreaths demanding for his departure from the group. He also faced death threats following such a scandal.
