Starting from Act 1, the story of Ae Soon (IU) and Gwan Sik (Park Bo Gum) unfolds with a tear-jerking love, marriage and childbirth narrative. The series tells their journey from youth through joys and sorrows until they become middle-aged spouses, portrayed by Moon So Ri and Park Hae Joon, over the course of four acts.

From Act 3, the spotlight shifts to their eldest daughter Geum Myeong (also played by IU), whom Ae Soon and Gwan Sik raised with immense love and care. Geum Myeong gets accepted into Seoul National University and begins dating Park Yeong-bum (Lee Jun Young), a man from a successful family.

Though the two share a long relationship that even hints at marriage, they ultimately cannot be together.
Then enters Chungseop (Kim Seon Ho), a man who expresses love through actions rather than words — evoking memories of Ae Soon and Gwan Sik’s straightforward, unwavering love in their youth.
Despite his own hardships, Chungseop does anything to protect Geum Myeong. He first appears in Act 3 with long hair and a beard as a sign painter, but returns in Act 4 with a transformed look, creating an explosive response.

Viewers quickly became attached to Chungseop, whose actions starkly contrast those of Yeong-bum. Comments such as “Yeong-bum, I forgot you in 15 seconds”, “Thanks, Yeong-bum, for letting Geum Myeong meet Chungseop” and “If it weren’t for Chungseop, I would’ve gone mad crying” reveal the deep affection viewers have developed for the character — and the shared sentiment among fans.

Praise for Kim Seon Ho has been nonstop from his visual chemistry with IU to his portrayal of the perfect son-in-law and natural couple acting, every moment of Geum Myeong and Chungseop is met with cheers.
Both Korean and international fans are declaring “Chungseop is the biggest winner of ‘When Life Gives You Tangerines’”, lauding his special appearance as a scene-stealer who rivals even Gwan Sik and Yeong-bum in presence and charm.

Kim Seon Ho has also drawn massive attention by posting behind-the-scenes photos from “When Life Gives You Tangerines” after the release of the series.
