In the May 6 episode of YouTube show “Salon Drip 2” on the channel “TEO”, Kyuhyun appeared as a guest and discussed his recent participation in the survival reality show “The Devil’s Plan” (Death Room).
He explained his initial hesitation “I got the offer to appear, but I really had to think about it. I’m known as one of the ‘brains’ of Super Junior, so what if I went on and got everything wrong?“, revealing the internal pressure to maintain his intellectual image.

He shared that opinions around him were mixed. Fellow Super Junior member Shindong, who has appeared on escape-room themed shows like “The Great Escape“, encouraged him to take part. Kyuhyun also sought advice from broadcaster Lee Hye-sung, who appeared in season one of “The Devil’s Plan“. “*She told me it was hard because things never went as planned, but that I’d fit in well,*” he said.
Looking back on filming, Kyuhyun felt positive, “*It felt good to be a player again. Lately, I’ve only been doing MC or panelist roles, but this felt like a return to my New Journey to the West days.*”

Jang Do-yeon asked if he felt confident going into such a brain-intensive show. Kyuhyun admitted, “*Watching brain survival shows made me realize rankings aren’t just based on educational background.*”
A graduate of Kyung Hee University, Kyuhyun admitted, “*While I’m proud of my school, I’ve always had an inferiority complex about education.*” He explained, “*My father ran a private academy. Growing up, he always said, ‘If you don’t get into university, the academy will go under.’ I studied for college entrance exams with that weight on my shoulders.*”

He added, “*That pressure was so intense it traumatized me—so much so that I still struggle with English. It was a full-on Sparta method.*”
Despite those struggles, Kyuhyun found comfort in the idea that cleverness and wit might outweigh academic credentials, “*When I was up against people from Seoul National University or Harvard, I reminded myself that this isn’t about education but quick thinking.*”
Kyuhyun’s candidness resonated with many viewers, showing a different, more vulnerable side of the idol known for his poise and intelligence on screen.
